How to Use This Dice Roller

This dice roller generates true random rolls for any number and type of dice, including the standard RPG dice sets (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, d100) and custom-sided dice. The modifier field adds or subtracts a fixed value from the total, which is common in tabletop role-playing games where attributes and skills modify die results.

The standard notation for dice rolling in RPGs is NdS+M, where N is the number of dice, S is the number of sides, and M is the modifier. "2d6+3" means roll two six-sided dice and add 3 to the total. This calculator follows that convention.

Common Dice Uses

Tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons use all the standard polyhedral dice. Board games typically use d6s. Probability simulations and statistics exercises often use dice to demonstrate concepts like expected value and the law of large numbers. Even resolving ties in casual situations ("roll off") is a legitimate use of a dice roller.
