This calculator is built for employees, contractors, and anyone who needs to verify their hours before a paycheck arrives or track time for billing purposes. It handles both single-shift calculations and full-week timesheet totals, with optional overtime calculation and pay estimation.
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees in the US must receive overtime pay at a rate of at least 1.5 times their regular hourly rate for any hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek. Some states (like California) also require daily overtime for shifts exceeding 8 hours. This calculator applies the federal 40-hour threshold by default.
Unpaid break periods should be subtracted from total clock-in to clock-out time. A standard 30-minute lunch break on an 8-hour shift means 7.5 hours of compensable work time. Enter your break duration in minutes and the calculator will subtract it automatically.
Always verify your timesheet calculations before submitting. Even small rounding errors, like rounding 7 hours 52 minutes to 7.5 hours instead of 7.87 hours, add up over a year. If your employer rounds time, know your company policy and verify it is being applied consistently and correctly.
